Dedication To Quality

ExecuJet’s new Sales and Marketing Director gives us some insight into his new role and tells us a little more about the company’s service offering.

Firstly, what’s business like?

The market has shown continued growth in new and pre-owned aircraft sales since the beginning of the year, and it is predicted that the trend will continue well into 2012. Our aircraft sales unit reports that year-on-year figures show its deliveries in 2011 increased by almost 100%, with aircraft sales revenues up by 90%. We had a peak in activity with six aircraft sold across five continents in less than four months – with lead times as short as six weeks in some cases. Wide-bodied, long-range aircraft have been the most requested. The aircraft’s reliability and a gradual increase in their pricing, owing to demand, have resulted in this sector of the market being particularly active.

The current price point for smaller jets has encouraged serious buyers to purchase and the narrow body market is also seeing movement, with cash deals prevailing in this sector. In spite of market uncertainty, businesses are still operating and need to move their executives around. The trend by scheduled airlines to reduce frequencies and routes has resulted in a growing need for business aviation options. We are pleased that the executive aircraft is being recognised as an increasingly valuable business tool again.

Give us an idea of your client base?

ExecuJet has the responsibility of being very discreet with our clients’ details and for this reason we are not able to disclose specific names. But, I can say that we deal with a wide variety of clients. These include large multinational blue chip companies, various governments and wealthy individuals.

What services do you provide?

We have five primary offerings – namely, aircraft sales, charter, fix-based operation (FBO), aircraft management and aircraft maintenance.

Aircraft Sales – we offer an end-to end solution on new and pre-owned aircraft. This involves everything from sourcing the aircraft, to signing the purchase mandate with the client, to managing the specifications, marketing, conducting pre-sale inspections, delivering and licensing the aircraft. Charter – we cater to a variety of clients with very different mission profiles, and we are able to do this because we have a regional fleet of over 50 aircraft and a global fleet of over 160 aircraft. FBO – we have two facilities in South Africa, at our regional head office at Lanseria International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.

Aircraft Management – ExecuJet manages aircraft on behalf on their owners and these owners can vary from large corporations to individuals. Aircraft Maintenance – ExecuJet is a warranty centre for Bombardier, Gulfstream, Dassault and Hawker, but we offer maintenance to all makes of business jets and turbo-propelled aircraft. We also have a variety of maintenance offerings, such as: Engine Shop, Airframe, Avionics and Refurbishments.

What is your growth strategy?

We’re going to be spending more time with our clients directly, and attempting to put a personal face to business aviation.

What challenges do you anticipate?

We don’t anticipate any major challenges, but as we are a very dynamic organisation, we are always ready for any eventuality.

What experience do you have and how has that prepared you for your new role?

I have been involved with a number of successful companies, such as Samsung South Africa, and in the last nine years I’ve built a group of companies, Simang Group (Pty) Ltd, with my two business partners. I believe my experiences will continue to serve me well.

What do you enjoy most about the aviation industry?

I enjoy the people and, it goes without saying, the aircraft.

What excites you about the South African aviation industry?

There are too many things to mention. But, what would stand out for me is how it is opening up for people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

What does ExecuJet stand for?

Pristine integrity, high levels of corporate governance, an unwavering pursuit of excellence and a dedication to world class quality.
