According to eTurboNews, the Kenya Airport Authority has awarded the tender for the temporary terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to German company Roeder HTS.
The new temporary terminal, long talked about but finally pursued with some added vigour by KAA after the devastating fire in August last year (see story here), is expected to cost over $25 million and will remain in place until the new ‘mega terminal’ under ‘Project Greenfield’ is ready in a few years’ time.
The new terminal will provide an added capacity of about 2.5 million passengers per year and will operate beside the new Terminal 4 building when that complex, adjoining the present Unit 1 of the main concourse, will finally open. Once Terminal 4 is operational, Units 1, 2 and reportedly also Unit 3 – presently used for domestic flights – are due for a complete renovation and modernisation, while an entirely new arrivals complex will be constructed once the ruins have been demolished.
