It seems that airline passengers could soon be faced with stricter carry-on luggage rules in the face of newly-drafted guidelines by IATA.
Tom Windmuller, IATA Senior Vice-President for Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security, said the guidelines had been agreed by Boeing, Airbus and IATA, and that communication to IATA’s 260 member airlines had received a favourable response.
The proposed rolling suitcase, measuring 55cm x 35cm x 20cm, is allegedly small enough to allow each passenger to fit one bag in the overhead space above their seat.
The idea is that the bag will eliminate confusion for different sized carry-on requirements between different airlines.
IATA says it is working with bag manufacturers, and ‘cabin OK’ bags are expected to be in stores by the end of the year.
