The first sods have been turned for the development of City Lodge Waterfall City, a 150-room hotel that is scheduled to open towards the end of 2014.
The hotel is being developed as part of a long-term land and building lease agreement, with a total development value of around R130 million.
Situated at the entrance to the multi-use Waterfall City development around 300 metres from the Allandale off-ramp on the N1 freeway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, the hotel will comprise a ground floor and four upper levels, and offer access to the Gautrain Midrand station.
Waterfall City, one of biggest multi-use property developments in Africa, is being developed around the 116,000m2 Mall of Africa shopping complex situated within the 311 hectare Waterfall Business Estate, which has 1.7 million square metres of developable land approved to date.
“We’re excited about building our first new hotel in South Africa since 2010, and we believe there is a great future for Waterfall City, which will be an important new development node linking Midrand with the northern Johannesburg area,” said Clifford Ross, Chief Executive of the City Lodge Hotel Group.
