According to eTurboNews, an Ethiopian Airlines 737 Boeing made history as the largest aircraft to land on the newly-opened 2,4 kilometre runway at Egal International Airport, as the national carrier of Ethiopia added Hargeisa, Somaliland, to its list of international destinations.
Somaliland is a self-declared republic that is internationally recognised as an autonomous region of Somalia.
Egal International Airport was recently opened after the completion of the last phase of the re-carpeting of the runaway and modernisation of the facility, which was initiated nearly a year ago.
The runway has been completely refurbished and the arrival and departure terminals have been renovated.
