Hotel check: Tudor House

Background

Fahrenheit Hospitality runs a chain of separately-branded boutique hotels, bars and restaurants in Lagos, with plans to grow its presence across Nigeria. Maison Tribeca, Fahrenheit Loft, Fahrenheit Court, Morning Side Suites and Tudor House are its five properties, covering 176 rooms.

What’s it Like?

It’s a luxurious boutique hotel, with a big emphasis on opulence and exclusivity. Tudor House will appeal to those business travellers who fancy a chic lifestyle and enjoy the finer things in life. It does, though, also provide just about all the amenities you might need. Most importantly, there is complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access throughout the property, and the hotel makes the point that it has 24-hour power facilities, which is important, due to the regular power failures and reliance on generators in Lagos.

Where is it?

The hotel is situated on Dr. Adewale Oshin Street, a quiet street close to the Lekki British International School in the heart of Lekki Phase 1, which is a fast-growing business hub on the island axis of Lagos state. If you’re after some nightlife, then this hotel could be a good option for you, as it’s just a 15-minute drive from Victoria Island, which offers a variety of bars and restaurants. The hotel is approximately an hour’s drive from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, but that could prove even longer, due to the Lagos traffic. So, make sure you leave for the airport well in advance of your flight time. The hotel does run an airport shuttle, on request.

Room Facilities

There are 14 rooms and four suites. Tudor House offers Standard rooms, Executive rooms, Mini Suites and Executive Suites. I was accommodated in a Standard room, which was extremely comfortable, featuring all the ‘mod-cons’ you might expect from a boutique hotel. They included a flat-screen HD TV with selected DSTV channels, individually controlled air-conditioning, a work desk, modern bathroom, complimentary Wi-Fi access, a safe and a mini-bar, which is apparently stocked on request. Unfortunately, no tea and coffee in the room, which I found strange. From what I could ascertain, there are minor differences between the rooms on offer. Size is one factor, with the Executive room appearing bigger than the Standard room. The Mini Suite offers a balcony and a separate seating area, whilst the Executive Suite comes with a separate lounge and you get a welcome fruit platter!

Restaurants & Bars

The hotel has an in-house restaurant and cocktail bar which can seat 20 people, and a thatched outdoor bush bar and lounge, which is ideal for social and business engagements. Both venues serve meals ranging from intercontinental to local dishes, as well as various brands of spirits, wines, beer and beverages. I opted for the spaghetti with catfish in chili sauce for dinner at the bush bar. Unfortunately, it was served cold, yet interestingly, I still found it very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

Business & Meeting Facilities

Tudor House has a private conference and meeting facility which seats 15 people. The meeting room comes with complimentary Wi-Fi and modern audio/visual equipment.

Leisure Facilities

Tudor House’s leisure facility includes a medium-sized swimming pool located behind the building close to the bush bar. There’s also a gym available, but it is located outside the hotel at a neighbouring facility.

Verdict

A good option for both corporate and leisure travellers looking for some peace and quiet. It’s clean, secure and serene, with just about everything you need, although the offering would be enhanced by an in-room tea and coffee-making facility and an in-house gym.
