Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotel’s Maharani Tower has opened a new multi-purpose venue on the 31st floor – called Sky – offering a panoramic view of the Durban coastline.
Sky is part of the next phase in the overall R220 million that Tsogo Sun has committed to the refurbishment and relaunch of the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani. Sky is a complete renovation of the popular Raffles. Sky is now available for conferences, launches, themed evenings, banquets, private functions and celebrations, and features stage, lighting and sound production equipment and facilities. It can accommodate up to 250 people, or more intimate groups, with a main floor area of 300 square metres.
It complements the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani complex’s range of conferencing facilities, which include 17 meeting and conference rooms and two fully-equipped business centres.
Following the success of the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani, the next project to be undertaken by the group is the R100 million refurbishment of the Garden Court Marine Parade. The upgrade will entail a refurbishment of all the 346 rooms in the hotel, the public areas, and the large-scale conference space, while remaining true to the art deco theming of the hotel. This project is scheduled to start in April 2014 and will take around a year to complete.
