According to eTurboNews, the city administration of Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, has announced the launch of a car-free zone in the CBD.
The initiative will start with three streets allowing only pedestrian traffic. The scheme will be expanded as the project is reviewed and assessed.
Shuttles will give access to the pedestrian zone from designated parking areas, and the city administration is also expected to create green areas within the car-free area.
The move is reportedly contained in a master plan of development for the city, which will make Kigali the first of the East African capitals with a dedicated inner-city pedestrian zone.
