Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race

About: After 32 years of existence, this 1000 kilometre race is considered the ‘Comrades Marathon’ of off-road events. The race is one of the longest-running sponsorships in South African motorsport, with Toyota taking over sponsorship in 1981. The car race is part of the ABSA National Off Road Championship and is made up of racing 4×4 ‘bakkies’ and special purpose vehicles. The race is run over two loops of 250 kilometres, which are each run twice, making up the 1000 kilometres. The races begin and end in the village of Kumakwane, which is 25 kilometres west of Gaborone.
